Article About the PIAMY Fes Event with Kanna Mori [Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko]

Translation of parts of an article dedicated to the event in which Kanna Mori took part with Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko author Sal Jiang, in the context of a festival for an app dedicated to lesbian and bisexual women (dating and friendship):

A member of the PIAMY management is in the event scene in the lesbian bar, in episode 1. Talking to the producers, she found out how they’re treasuring the connection with the real life lesbian community.

From selecting, as a recurring location, the bar owned by Keiko Nishihara, a lesbian, to making actual lesbian influencers appear in episode 1, and having the cast members educate themselves about LGBTQ+ themes

Because of this, moved by the desire to have more lesbians know about the feelings and intentions poured into this drama, PIAMY sent an invitation to the Fes and Sal Jiang, Kanna Mori and producers Kamiura and Oosugi agreed to participate!

During the meeting before the actual event, the women at PIAMY thanked Kanna for deciding to connect with GL works and with the real lesbian community and Kanna said “Don’t mention it! Thank you for inviting me!”
Kanna!!!

Apparently, the stage for the special event was PACKED! The guests were welcomed by huge applause, accompanied by the OP theme for the drama!

The event was held about 10 days after the first EP of the drama aired. Kanna and Sal Jiang said they were happy and surprised that the response to AyaHiro had exceeded their expectations.

During the event, Kanna called Sal Jiang “Mother”, to which the audience laughed out loud. Then Kanna explained how this habit had started on set, and it’s derived from the fact that Sal Jiang is the creator of AyaHiro.

She added that “it’s a work that Mother put her soul into and producer Kamiura took 4 years to finally get approved. I wanted to confront the experience (including the lesbian portrayal) with proper determination, so I’ve definitely been a bit nervous about it.”

Kamiura explained that she and Oosugi had worked together on BLs for 2 years and had been wanting to make a GL for some time. She’s very happy that they could finally come this far.

Kanna spoke about how much she likes the ED scene, with Ayaka and Hiroko walking together at night. The scene was shot in one take and different parts are used in every episode! (We have noticed and we also love it!!)

Sal Jiang said Ayaka’s approaches are super cute and make her heart flutter (note: SAME). Kanna also mentions Ayaka being very cute, and adds she’s completely taken in. To which the crowd loudly cheered.

When asked about filming scenes in close contact with a woman. Kanna said there was some tension initially, but as Hiroko she had to express familiarity with it. There were times in which she had to just switch her mindset and get like “Ok, let’s do this!!”.

Ichinose, the PIAMY member who appeared in EP1 in which Kanna passes an arm around her, mentioned that Kanna was so considerate that she checked with her before the filming started, asking if it was okay to touch her!

Truth is Sal Jiang herself actually is also in that scene in the lesbian bar in episode 1!!
She says she wanted to be involved as much as it was allowed for her to, from script to filming.

Lastly, Kanna spoke about the lesbian community.
She mentioned reading a news story about a Japanese lesbian couple seeking refuge in Canada. She also mentions seeing lesbian couples holding hands and walking together when she was studying in the US (continues…

…This made her feel that Japan is still very behind, with a lack of legal protection that’s making the many lesbians that live there struggle. She hopes the entertainment business can help make things better…

…and she believes this is the main reason why she decided to accept the role, moved by the desire to contribute to make a society that’s easier to live for lesbians. She hopes people will love the drama, find it interesting and spread the word about it.

Sal Jiang concluded saying “I think the drama may evoke many feelings but, as a love comedy, if it’ll make the viewers laugh and have fun, I’ll call it a success.
