As you might know (if you didn't, know you do), the opening theme song for the second season of Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko was released on streaming yesterday (give it a listen or two)! So...here is the translation in English. Some bits were particularly tricky, as it often is with Japanese lyrics, but I did my best...and I also ended up getting a bit emotional in the process. You'll probably notice the theme of origami (both in the title and in some of the expressions) used in the lyrics. Anyway, read up, read up!

I wish I could see you every single day,
but what if I end up
getting used to it?
Piling up valley and mountain folds,
what I'm praying for is
a vague kind of completion.
There's no guarantee
that things will
always stay like this.
I won't make any promises.
I don't know how everything
is going to unfold, but
I want to see you, even 80 years from now.
When you'll be all wrinkled,
I'll count those lines, so not to let them go,
and maybe I'll write them down
in permanent ink.
1 2 3, still incomplete.
The heart line takes a trip
on the palm of my hand.
It blossoms and flutters,
playing a game of chase.
So you said, and waited
for the punctuation mark.
Sharp-edged phrases,
the rustling sound of hearts,
it all blurs in slow motion.
Where should we start tidying up from?
I ask, as I doze off.
Time out, and for now, the curtain falls.
Right and left brains think differently, don’t they?
Taking in, meeting in the middle,
but deep down, lies conflict.
No matter how many hours and times it takes,
even spent on apparently pointless conversations,
you know, the truth is, the truth is…
If we match up the corners,
maybe we'll be able to see
what's the end point of happiness.
Even in moments like this,
so vague, so warm,
like basking in the sun,
I keep in mind that
twilight will surely come.
And I pray,
to see you, even 80 years from now.
When you'll be all wrinkled,
I'll count those lines, so not to let them go.
Maybe I'll laminate them,
and hold on to them.
1 2 3, still incomplete.
The heart line takes a trip
on the palm of my hand.
It blossoms and flutters,
playing a game of chase.
So you said, and waited
for the punctuation mark.
Sharp-edged phrases,
the rustling sound of hearts,
it all blurs in slow motion.
Where should we start tidying up from?
I ask, as I doze off.

I'm offended (?) because it made me emotional without my consent! 🥹🤭
