Pretty late with the comment post this week; work has been keeping me on edge! I wish I could've done this when I was fresh off watching the episode, but it is what it is.
====
I've seen many happy and enthusiastic comments around, about this episode, so I find myself a bit troubled in my desire to write honestly about my views on it. Oh, nothing too bad, no worries, but still not all sunshine and rainbows like it was for others.
First of all, I can't just overlook how hyped Sayuringo's scene has been and how, comparatively, underwhelming it ended up being, at least for me. Am I really the only one who found it underwhelming? I can't be! Sure it's great that it wasn't dragged too long, but...I don't think it ended up being particularly entertaining or impactful. I also feel like it didn't help that it was divided between the end of an episode and the beginning of another (though I understand the cliffhanger reasoning).
Another thing about this week's episode that left me a bit unsatisfied is the comedy/seriousness balance. It was really really dense in the first half of the season, but felt lacking (last week was only saved by KyonRisa and Kyouko and Hiroko's interactions). And it's not like there were not moments that could've used a funny spin, because there were! Even the Sayuringo one, could've been played out in a more comedic way. I don't know...
As for Ayaka and Hiroko's journey individually, I often find myself thinking that a lot of those uncertainties and worries are very understandable and relatable, but then I end up unavoidably remembering that they've been together for a year, and having been unable to communicate and be truly open to each other to such an extent...is quite huge and I have a hard time dealing with it fully (as in it makes it harder for me to perceive them as a couple I want to cheer on!).
Then the frustration, this time, of them both seemingly having a realization, only for that to lead them once again on the wrong trajectory! Ayaka getting to the fact that Hiroko's been feeling really burdened (though to be fair she's done it to herself and it shouldn't be Ayaka's responsibility to prevent it...), Hiroko realizing that things can't keep going on like that (correct) and deciding she should "be" even more perfect!?!? Come on now! Come on now!! That's obviously not the right way to go!
And it was so heartbreaking, seeing Ayaka find that note from Keiko, mentioning Hiroko being able to speak up about what's on her mind and coming to the conclusion that if, in their relationship, she's not doing that (and instead is constantly trying her hardest to be "the perfect girlfriend") it must be her fault, hence she has to let go of her. Seriously, Ayaka? Seriously?
I feel like in a way they haven't really been girlfriends at all up until now (a year, a whole year) and, of course I don't refer to the sexual aspect of it. If anything, that would only play one of the roles in this. The more I think of it, the more I end up believing that, if we have to (and we don't have to, mind you!) talk about "fault", it has to be more on Hiroko's side. Ayaka is not only much younger than her, she's also very inexperienced, and they both know it. I understand Hiroko is emotionally immature due to her past experiences, I understand her fears, but there's no way not even a part of her realizes that two girlfriends should talk about things regarding their relationship. And...why would your desire to be intimate with your girlfriend (who loves you) lead to her becoming disillusioned with you!? Remember the end of season 1, with Ayaka openly asking Hiroko whether she doesn't feel aroused by her? She's only be happy to know Hiroko feels that way about her!! Ahhh, this gets me a tad frustrated, honestly.
Also, why did Ayaka not take anything good from Jun's words!? Instead of taking it as a push to communicate with Hiroko, she went on and started to repress herself just like Hiroko! Why!?!?!? Ahhhhhhh!!!! This also got me a bit frustrated!!
But not frustrated to the point of not being able to enjoy the amazing picnic scene. So beautiful and touching. The idea, the vision, of expressing your desire to live together with someone through the act of eating breakfast together is just...I truly loved that. I will definitely keep that with me. And Ayaka hugging Hiroko was super adorable! Lovely scene. The clothes switching scene and the dryer scene were really sweet as well! I also liked a lot the transition from Hiroko on the pedestrian bridge to the flashback. I think it was really well done.

[Eng Subs] AyaHiro 2 Finale Preview 🐇🦌

Keiko! You better not disappoint! I like you!
Can't wait to see Hiroko admitting her feelings for Ayaka to Tsumugi! 🥹
AND! Is that them after having...you know what!?!?! 🙏
They both look so happy!

So, thanks to the preview we already know that Hiroko is going to admit her feelings for Ayaka to her niece Tsumugi. But is it going to be so easy? How hard will she try to avoid saying it? Is Keiko going to be on her side? I can see her being surprised, but I really can't imagine her be disappointed, sad or react negatively in any other way...so I have a hard time imagining conflict around the matter. I believe in you, Keiko!
Then...it seems like we also already know that Ayaka and Hiroko are going to make love, and that they're gonna both be very happy about it! I mean, we knew it had to happen, right? But maybe the preview could've been less revealing 🤭
For my joy, going by her line, Hiroko is going to realize she has failed at being a girlfriend for Ayaka. I know it's a hard word, I know!!! But it's the truth in a way, isn't it? By not being herself in the relationship, completely denying all her drives and tendencies (not only the sexual ones), she has never truuuuly been in this relationship. And it's on her. But she can change it all...if she finally, finally gets to doing the talking once and for all. Please!!!!
Is it just me (yeah, I know, it never is just one person) or has this season just...gone by in a second? :')
