Subbed version of the preview for Episode 3 of Call Me by No Name. You can read the summary here.
Considering what’s mentioned in the summary, with regard to the fact that Meguchi doesn’t do what seem to be kind acts out of actual kindness, the last line might – or might not – be quite meaningful.
If the line indeed refers to Kotoha*, and Meguchi is talking about the possibility of one day regretting abandoning her, this could hint at the fact that she has regrets about not being able to help someone in the past. Maybe all her attempts at kindness could be a way to try and make up for that, to atone for the guilt about that. If we take into consideration episode 2’s flashback with the reporter asking her if she’s always felt a desire to help others, though, she must have at least tried to help in the occasion of that certain incident from the past. I don’t know, just something I thought about.
*Meguchi’s final line is very context dependent.
It
could be referred to herself, and either towards Kotoha (as I put it)
or towards something else (if I abandon/give it up now); or it could be
referred to Kotoha about something we don’t yet know about (if you
abandon/give it up now, you’ll regret it one day). We’ll know for sure
only when watching. Editing to say that in the end it was not referred to Kotoha, but to the little girl's toy. We had no way of knowing at the time of the preview, though.
