If I think this is the final episode preview post for Call Me by No Name, I...don't want make it at all.
Ahhh, I really don't want this show to end, but it is what it is. So...here is the subbed preview, followed by my thoughts about it!
=======
First things first: the idea that we get to experience a bit of the story from Kotoha's perspective intrigues me immensely. Even just the few things we see in the preview, with her looking at Megumi, make me so emotional. The phrase about the fact that she might've been hoping for love to begin made me think back to what Kotoha told Megumi at the end of episode 1, using the same expression. When considered as being said to Megumi (she's talking to her, but the phrase itself is general) it could be translated as "I'm counting on you", "Don't disappoint me", but also "I have high expectations" or "I have high hopes". So now I'm wondering if that's what this line is a reference to, the hopes/expectations she began having at that moment, that maybe actual love could come out of that "game". We'll know soon enough (sadly).
What else? Well, I hope Murata won't take too much space. To be fair he's always only appeared for very short periods, but still...every second to Murata is a second less for Kotoha and Megumi, so...!!!
I'm also happy to see that apparently Sanae will step up and also, in her own way, support the relationship. Tabane is an angel and there's no doubt about that, but I also have no doubts about Sanae's love for Megumi.
And that last scene. Ever since I watched the trailer with that same exact moment, I thought it would be the scene that's been mentioned over and over in interviews and such. The scene where Ichika was finally able to synch up with Kotoha and, together with her, show us genuine, raw vulnerability. I really invite you all to check out all the stuff where this is mentioned, because I'm sure it will make us all appreciate even more not just the scene, but also Ichika's efforts.
In particular, check out this interview (here on twitter too if you prefer), and these two subbed clips: one (here on twitter), and two (here on twitter).

Murata's play was less important than suggested in the trailer of the series, yes. And let us hope a happy ending for both. :)
ReplyDeleteI want to believe there's no other path, aside from that of a happy ending! :)
DeleteWriting this while crying because I just finished watching the episode
ReplyDeleteThis drama is killing me...
I think the same. In the first episode, during that whole part "We're women, no one is going to believe this", we could see how her cold expression was shaken for a second when she saw Megumi react in a way she wasn’t expecting
So yes, she noticed that Megumi was different from the others and started building a hidden hope (one she kept even from herself and couldn’t acknowledge yet, for obvious reasons...and probably still can't)
I was expecting something like this, about her past, after seeing how she was living her life, but NOT THIS
This was so much worse…
I loved seeing Tabane supporting her and watching Megumi connect the dots
I can’t believe you guessed the name right! I just checked your blog and read it all
Also, since the series didn’t explain the meaning, I really wished they had included it somehow. I think it’s one of the most, if not the most, important parts of the drama
In the end, everything started with this name-guessing game
That whole final part…I don’t even know what to say
I felt all the pain in her words and couldn’t stop my tears
What happened to her was just terrible and disgusting and the fact that we had hints of it from the first episode…God
Oh she really wanted to hear her name from Megumi. The way she was smiling…it was so sad and beautiful at the same time
I don’t even know how to describe it
I think I need to collect my thoughts lmao
I’m way too invested right now
Also, I wanted to ask if the book is available in English, I’d love to read it!
Rewatching some things now makes much more sense, doesn't it?
DeleteI'm so happy my researching efforts paid off, for the name.
Unfortunately, the series is not build around the idea of being accessible to an international audience, and Japanese people wouldn't need much explanations in regards to the most known meaning of the word.
I agree with you, it's really hard to describe how seeing Kotoha in that state made me feel. It was really intense...Relief, joy, yet still that deep seated pain...
The novel is only available in Japanese! :')
Absolutely, if I rewatch it, it’s going to feel so different in my eyes...crazy
ReplyDeleteIt’s really hard to explain how I feel about the whole Kotoha situation…sometimes words just aren’t enough
Yeah, of course, the Japanese audience doesn’t need a real explanation but still... ðŸ˜
Thank you for explaining it so well!!
And...nooo, that’s so sad
I hope they’ll translate it into English one day, fr
I hope we can see some scenes that felt incredibly private and personal in previous episodes— which MeguKoto only shared with each other or didn’t show to the monitor at all… I’d love for those scenes to be shown again from a different angle, offering another perspective. I’ve always wanted to see them! 😖 They would mean so much to the characters’ development in the drama version.
ReplyDeleteI mean, the preview showing Kotoha looking up to Megumi's face during that beautiful scene at the end of episode 2 is WONDERFUL. I really look forward to seeing that!
DeleteAnd I also hope that, aside from the resolution, we can get at least a nice cute sweet moment for our lovely young women!!!!!
Omg yes I really need to see that as well ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
